About the Group
The Docklands Community Mahjong Group was founded by Paul and Shirley Vella β Docklands residents who wanted to bring the neighbourhood together over a game they love.
Shirley grew up in Hong Kong where mahjong is a way of life. She taught Paul, who then built the Hong Kong Style Mahjong app to help others learn the game. The community group grew naturally from that same passion.
The group is supported by a City of Melbourne Connected Neighbourhoods Small Grant and was set up with the help of Fadi, the City of Melbourne Neighbourhood Partner for Docklands. The group has been running since May 2023.

Doors open from 6:15pm. We recommend arriving a little early to get settled before play begins.

Around 16 people join each session β a mix of regulars and newcomers from across Docklands and Melbourne. It's a genuinely warm group built around connection, not competition.
